If you are a fan of the Alice in Wonderland book by Lewis Carroll – or if you simply remember the Disney movie – you might like to visit the temporary exhibition at CaixaForum, one of Barcelona’s main cultural centres, located near Plaça d’Espanya.
Here you will be transported into a magical world of potions, talking animals and illusions. Until February 16, 2025, you can delve into the story behind Alice in Wonderland, a book that has been translated into 175 languages.
The exhibition features original drawings, book editions in various languages, interactive models, costumes from movies and plays inspired by the story. There is even a meditative experience guided by a soothing voice that takes you on a personal journey through Alice’s adventures.
The exhibition explores the evolution of Alice in Wonderland from its publication in 1865 to today, highlighting its influence on plays, movies, and cartoons over the years.
The exhibition is suitable for both adults and children. While there are interactive elements, they are not the main focus, so we recommend the exhibition for children aged eight and older.
An interesting guided tour is available for an extra charge, at selected times.
The explanations at the exhibition are unfortunately only available in Spanish and Catalan. There is no English translation, even though the exhibition originates from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and was put together by its senior curator, Kate Bailey.
